We have a wonderful band of men and women: accountants, farmers, electricians, lifestylers, retirees, horticulturalists, teachers, bus drivers: you name it, we have them! However, over the years some people drop out, for various reasons, so we are always on the lookout for additional helpers.
We now put on three concerts every summer on the Haiku Reserve in Katikati. On the morning of the concert – we start at 8am – the trucks and crew roll in and we set up a roof and walls around the stage.
It takes a huge effort, but we have a lot of fun too. All sorts of new skills are learnt and shared, from how to build with kiwifruit bins to rigging the concert lighting.
After the concert on the Saturday evening, as the audience departs, the crew set to dismantling their work and the whole reserve is left clear that same night. Yes, sometimes we are working in the dark – but car headlights and torches abound. Three times now we have been honoured by the TrustPower Volunteer Awards, which gives us all a great sense pleasure and a reason to go out as a group and celebrate.
So – why not come and join in with us? It’s only three Saturdays during the year and it will give you a great sense of achievement and belonging to the Katikati community. Please contact us on 07 549 5266 if you are interested in helping – we would be delighted to talk to you.
Katikati Twilight Concerts have become one of the most popular events in the Bay of Plenty holiday-time calendar, providing relaxed summer evening entertainment in pleasant surroundings for locals and visitors to the area.
The Twilight Concerts depend for their continuation on the hard work of many volunteers and the generosity of local businesses. We are grateful for the support we receive and are always on the lookout for more!
